Welcoming Deacon Bill Dunlop as Our New Archdeacon

We are excited to introduce Deacon Bill Dunlop as the new Archdeacon of the Diocese! With a heart for service, a passion for mentorship, and unwavering dedication, Bill is ready to bring his unique perspective and gifts to this vital role.

Bill describes himself in three words: serve, mentor, dedicated—qualities that have defined his ministry over decades and across continents. A central part of his vision for this role is fostering community:

“I have always worked to bring people from diverse backgrounds together to grow both individually and as a community.”

Bill’s journey of faith and service has taken him across three continents, four visited, and eight states, with some revisited multiple times. Along the way, his family has been a steadfast source of support and joy. He introduces us to his wife, Amy, their children, Jean (with her husband Brandon) and Will (with his wife Betsy), and their beloved grandsons, Austin and Stetson.

Despite his many adventures, Deacon Bill still finds joy in firsts—like attending his first camp at age 68, serving as chaplain for EpiscoWisco Middler Camp!

When asked about his favorite Bible verses, Bill offered two that ground his faith and ministry:

  • 1 Corinthians 13: “Love is... and the greatest of these is love.”

  • Matthew 5:28 (CEB): “Therefore, just as your heavenly Father is complete in showing love to everyone, so also you must be complete.”

Bill reflected, “Being complete allows us to live out God’s call to us without having to try to be perfect, which only God is.”

Bill’s appreciation for the quiet beauty of Wisconsin shines through when he describes his ideal weekend: “Walking in the quiet of a newly fallen snow.” On busy days, though, you might find him powered by his go-to snack—pretzels—or reflecting on the powerful themes in Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer.

Please join us in warmly welcoming Deacon Bill to his new role as Archdeacon. His dedication, wisdom, and spirit of service will be a blessing to our Diocese!
